Lane closures are scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street
and
Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges in Lower Pottsgrove, Montgomery
County, on
Monday, April 30, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and Tuesday, May 1, and
Wednesday,
May 2, from 7:00 PM to 4:00 AM the following morning for barrier
installation
and line painting operations as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of
U.S.
422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk
Southern
railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on eastbound U.S.
422 in
the work area because backups will occur. The schedule is weather
dependent.
Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S.
422
structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk
Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River
bridge
to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the
Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning
ramps at
the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and
realigning
the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage;
erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future
Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and
signs.
J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent

Route 452 (Market Street) will be reduced to a single lane between Ormand
Street and 11th Street beginning Sunday night, April 29, through Friday,
May 4,
from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM,
for
bridge sidewalk demolition and sewer improvements as part of a project
replace
the structure carrying Route 452 (Market Street) over Amtrak and SEPTA
railroad
tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township, Delaware
County,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
area
because backups and delays will occur. All traffic during construction will
be
controlled by flagging operations.
Route 452 (Market Street) will continue to remain open to traffic during
construction except for two 28-day closures planned during later stages of
construction. The project is scheduled to finish in fall 2019.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor is replacing the
17-span
reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new four-span, continuous
prestressed
box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long, 40 feet wide and
will be
built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards.
Crews
will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge.
The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilitated in 1995. The current
structure
is 656 feet long, 32 feet wide and carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a
day.

on
the $19,947,624 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent
state funds.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today reopened the
bridge carrying Quakertown Road over a branch of Macoby Creek in Upper
Hanover
Township, Montgomery County, following a six-week rehabilitation project.
Under this project, PennDOT's contractor repaired the existing deck,
performed
substructure and superstructure repairs and installed new drainage on the
bridge.
Built in 1926 and reconstructed in 1960, the two-span reinforced concrete-T
beam bridge is 56 feet long, 29 feet wide and carries about 1,142 vehicles
a
day.
The Quakertown Road bridge is one of nine structures in Chester and
Montgomery
counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project financed by
Act
89, the state's transportation plan.
The bridge carrying Route 63 (Welsh Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in
Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County, was completed
last summer.
The bridge carrying Ross Fording Road over Octorara Creek in West
Fallowfield
Township, Chester County, is currently under construction.
The other bridges in this rehabilitation project include:
• Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
• Boot Road over Route 100 in West Whiteland Township, Chester County;
• Route 611 over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
• Route 611 over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramp in Upper Moreland,
Montgomery
County; and
• Linfield Road over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township,
Montgomery
County.
Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
