PECO to Restrict Several State Highways Next Week for Utility Improvements in Chester and Montgomery Counties

King of Prussia, PA – PECO Energy is planning single lane closures next week on several state highways in Chester and Montgomery counties for utility construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

Chester County

• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure with flagging is scheduled on U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) between Pinebrook Circle and Guthriesville Road in East Brandywine Township;
• Tuesday, October 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure with flagging is scheduled on Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) between New Street and Stony Run Road in East Vincent Township; and
• Saturday, November 2, from 10:00 PM to 1:00 PM Sunday, November 3, a single lane closure is scheduled on U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) in both directions between Old Lancaster Road and Berwyn Paoli Road in Tredyffrin Township.

Montgomery County

• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 63 (Moreland Road) between Frazier Avenue and Cleveland Avenue in Abington Township; and
• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Oak Terrace Drive and Lloyd Road in Lower Gwynedd Township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

U.S. 422 Lane Closures Next Week for Construction on Three Improvement Projects in Montgomery and Chester Counties

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter several travel restrictions next week at various locations in Montgomery and Chester counties for construction activities on three separate projects to reconstruct, rehabilitate and improve the expressway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Weather permitting, the work schedule is:

• Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the right lane is scheduled to close on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 724 and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County for pavement repair;
• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a single lane closure will be in [place on eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 between Route 100 and the Stowe Interchange in North Coventry Township, Chester County and West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County for line striping and pavement marker installation; and
• Thursday, October 31, from 10:00 Am to 7:00 PM, alternating left or right lane closures are scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 between Airport Road and Township Line Roads in Limerick Township, Montgomery County for bridge construction.

In addition to the lane and full closure of U.S. 422, several surface streets will be restricted next week for bridge construction. The work schedule is:

• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane restrictions with flagging will occur on Troutman Road between Ashenfelter Road and Groff Circle in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County;
• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane restrictions with flagging will occur on Upper Indian Head Road between Cider Mill Road and Winding Ridge Road in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County; and
• Monday, October 28, through Saturday, November 2, right lane closures are scheduled on Evergreen Road between Lightcap Road and Rupert Road in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

I-76 Overnight Lane Closures Next Weekend for ITS Installations in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 motorists will encounter overnight lane closures in both directions in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties from 11:00 PM Friday, November 1, to 9:00 AM Saturday, November 2, for installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

• Eastbound I-76 between U.S. 1 and the Strawberry Mansion Bridge in Philadelphia; and
• Westbound I-76 between Righters Ferry Road and Belmont Avenue in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

In addition, periodic shoulder closures will remain in place on I-76 at various locations between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Montgomery Drive weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and weekends from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel in the work area because backups and slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

This work is part of the first phase of a long-range, comprehensive, multimodal transportation management plan designed to enhance travel and safety along the Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) corridor between King of Prussia and Philadelphia. I-76 East Lane Closure This Weekend, Full Closure at Night Next Week for Viaduct Rehabilitation in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to a single lane this weekend and closed and detoured at night next week, and westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane at night next week between the 30th Street and South Street interchanges in Center City Philadelphia for viaduct rehabilitation and repaving, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

Weather permitting, the work schedule is:

• Friday, October 25, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane from 9:00 PM until 10:00 PM Saturday, October 26, for repaving;
• Monday, October 28, through Thursday, October 31, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane at 9:00 PM, then closed completely each night from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for rehabilitation and repainting of the overhead viaduct. During the weeknight closing, eastbound I-76 traffic will exit at 30th Street, follow 30th Street around the station, turn left on Chestnut Street, then right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street;
• Monday, October 28, through Thursday, October 31, westbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane between the 30th Street and Interstate 676 interchanges for rehabilitation and repainting of the overhead viaduct; and
• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, the right deceleration lane on westbound I-76 approaching the ramp to 30th Street will be closed periodically for concrete placement under the viaduct.

Drivers are advised to use an alternate route or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. 

Next week's scheduled lane closures of westbound I-76 may be adjusted to start later than 11 PM if necessary to accommodate motorists leaving the sports complex in South Philadelphia.

The previously-scheduled closing of eastbound I-76 between 30th Street and South Street from 11:00 PM Friday, October 25, through 5:00 AM Monday, October 28, was scaled-back to a single lane closure Friday night through Saturday night because of the possibility of rain this weekend.

PennDOT is repairing and resurfacing the I-76 viaduct under a $39.8 million contract that also includes repairs to the three-span I-76 structure over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) in West Conshohocken Borough, just east of the Interstate 476/Conshohocken Interchange in Montgomery County. Repairs to the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct are part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which is scheduled to close for one year beginning in mid-June — and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street. PennDOT to Host Open House Meeting for New Hanover Square Bridge Replacement in New Hanover Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will hold an open house public plans display on Thursday, November 7, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the New Hanover Township building at 2943 North Charlotte Street in Gilbertsville to inform citizens about an upcoming project to replace and improve the bridge that carries New Hanover Square Road over Swamp Creek in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County.

The purpose of the open house is to present the public with progress plans and a status update on the project. The meeting will be conducted as an open-house plans display where citizens will have the opportunity to circulate among the subject displays to gather information and discuss the different facets of the project with PennDOT's design team.

Under this project, PennDOT will replace the existing New Hanover Square Road bridge and culvert as well as raise the roadway on both approaches to provide safe access over Swamp Creek for residents, emergency services and the traveling public during storm events.

Built in 1934, the three-span, steel-I beam, bituminous bridge is 117 feet long, 29 feet wide and carries an average of 2,186 vehicles a day. The structure had a posted weight limit of 3 tons before it closed on September 6, 2018 following an inspection and discovery of severe deterioration of the superstructure and bridge deck.

Construction bids on the project are expected to open in summer 2020. The project is anticipated to be funded with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state dollars.

King of Prussia, PA –  Periodic lane closures will be in place in both directions on U.S. 202, and the ramp from U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 will be closed at night next week for installation of recessed pavement markers in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

Weather permitting, the work schedule is: 

• Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and until 10:00 AM Saturday, November 2, U.S. 202 will be reduced periodically to one lane northbound or one lane southbound between the Boot Road and Route 401 interchanges, and;
• Monday, October 28, Tuesday, October 29, and Friday, November 1, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and until 10:00 AM Saturday, November 2, the ramp from the eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 will be closed. Motorists heading for northbound U.S. 202 will exit at Business U.S. 30, turn right onto Business U.S. 30 and right onto the ramp to northbound U.S. 202. 

The scheduled activities are among the final work items being completed under the $30.1 million project to rehabilitate the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass ramp and replace the concrete pavement on the ramps to and from U.S. 202 and U.S. 30/Exton Bypass.

U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) Lane Restrictions Scheduled for Bridge Replacement in Chester County

​King of Prussia, PA – Single lane closures are scheduled on U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) between Sugars Bridge Road and Valley Creek Road in East Bradford and West Bradford townships, Chester County, on Saturday, October 26, and Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for paving operations under a project to replace the bridge carrying U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) over the east branch of Brandywine Creek, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The schedule is weather dependent.

This project was driven by the need to replace the existing steel beam bridge that was built in 1929 and is currently listed in poor condition.

The new two-span, concrete bridge structure is being constructed downstream of the existing crossing on a new alignment extending from the intersection of U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and Sugars Bridge Road to the intersection of U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and Skelp Level Road. Operations began in November 2018 and the entire project is expected to be completed in spring of 2020.

Allan Myers, LP, of Worcester, PA is the general contractor on the $5,859,555 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
