Saginaw Road Bridge Closed Today in East Nottingham Township, Chester County
King of Prussia, PA – The bridge carrying Saginaw Road over Big Elk Creek in East Nottingham Township, Chester County was closed today due to advanced deterioration to steel truss connections discovered during a recent bridge inspection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the closure, Saginaw Road motorists will be directed to use Route 472 (Hickory Hill Road), State Road and Route 896 (Newark Road).
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area because backups and delays may occur.
The Saginaw Road bridge was built in 1925 and reconstructed in 1974. The single-span, single-lane steel truss bridge is 75 feet long, 16 feet wide and carries approximately 888 vehicles a day. Prior to its closure, the bridge was posted for 36 tons and 40 tons for combination loads.
A project to rehabilitate the structure is scheduled for bid in spring 2021 under a PennDOT project to repair or replace several bridges across the Philadelphia region.
