Bethel Road at U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Reduced to One Lane Next Week for Soil Boring in Upper Chichester Township

King of Prussia, PA — Bethel Road at its intersections with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers on Monday, September 28, through Friday, September 2, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for soil borings, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The soil borings are part of the advance engineering activities underway for the upcoming U.S. 322 Section CSX project to replace the bridge over Bethel Road and CSX railroad and improve the Bethel Road Interchange. Section CSX, which is scheduled to be under construction in late 2021, is one of four separate contracts that make up PennDOT's U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) improvement project.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work area or to use an alternate route as significant backups are expected in both directions.

PennDOT's contractor is currently in the third-and-final stage of construction on the Section 101 project, which is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

Design engineering continues on two additional projects (Section 102, 103) that will finish the widening and reconstruction of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway)  from east of Clayton Park Drive through the Route 452 (Market Street) in Bethel and Upper Chichester townships.

U.S. 1/U.S. 322 Intersection Restrictions at Night Next Week for Traffic Signal Improvement in Concord Township

King of Prussia, PA — Motorists in Concord Township, Delaware County, will encounter lane closures at night next week during construction to improve the traffic signals at the U.S. 1/U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Intersection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Lane closures with flaggers will be in place on both roadways at the intersection on Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning during the installation of new signals. Similar lane closures may also be in place Wednesday, September 30, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, if weather causes any delays or cancellations during the initial two nights of construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work area or to use an alternate route as significant backups are expected in both directions.

The work is part of the ongoing project to widen and reconstruct a U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to Clayton Park Drive in Concord Township. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

PennDOT - District 6 News: I-76 Lane Restrictions Next Week for Median Construction in Philadelphia

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

I-76 Lane Restrictions Next Week for Median Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Daytime and overnight lane restrictions will be in place next week on eastbound and westbound Interstate 76 for median barrier construction on the viaduct between 30th Street and University Avenue in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, September 28, through Saturday, October 3, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and University Avenue. The eastbound I-76 off-ramp to South Street also will be closed. Eastbound I-76 motorists normally using this ramp will be directed to exit at 30th Street and follow the detour signs around 30th Street Station back to South Street.

Westbound Interstate 76 remains reduced to one lane around-the-clock until the end of the year between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges for construction in the median barrier.

In addition, the westbound I-76 off-ramp to South Street also remains closed through the end of the year, and the South Street on-ramp to eastbound I-76 remains closed until November for median construction in that area.

Westbound I-76 motorists heading for South Street will be detoured to the westbound off-ramp at 30th Street and follow the detour signs around 30th Street Station back to South Street. Motorists normally using the South Street eastbound on-ramp will be detoured west on South Street to 34th Street and the ramp to eastbound I-76.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur during all of the scheduled activities, which are weather permitting. Westbound I-76 through motorists in New Jersey should take Interstate 676 west back to eastbound I-76, or take northbound Interstate 95 to westbound I-676 back to eastbound I-76.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signing, and relevant training.

PennDOT is repairing and resurfacing the I-76 viaduct under a $40 million contract. More information is available at www.I76viaduct.com.

King of Prussia, PA – A lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 202 between the Malvern and Great Valley interchanges in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, on Monday, September 28, through Friday, October 2, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for site remediation as part of a project to restore and reconstruct 11 stormwater management sites in Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Tacony Street Long Term Lane Closures Next Week for I-95 Construction in Northeast Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Tacony Street will be reduced to a single lane each direction with a center turn lane at intersections between Devereaux Street and Carver Street in Northeast Philadelphia for approximately one-year beginning Wednesday, September 23, for construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Crews will reduce Tacony Street to one lane in each direction on Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning to set up the new Tacony Street pattern by Wednesday morning, September 23. The travel restrictions will be in place for construction of retaining walls along the northbound side of I-95 and for installation of the stormwater drainage system, both part of the ongoing Interstate 95 construction at the Bridge Street Interchange.

In addition, lane closures may be in place periodically on Tacony Street between Carver Street and Bridge Street weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for soil boring related to the upcoming project to rebuild the southern end of the Bridge Street Interchange, Section BR2.

The work is part of PennDOT's $79 million I-95/BS1 project to rebuild I-95 and two bridges at the Bridge Street Interchange. The entire project is anticipated to be completed in late 2022.
