PennDOT to Begin Bridge Construction on Route 113 (Souderton Road) in Hilltown Township
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin Monday, January 20, on a project to replace the bridge carrying Route 113 (Souderton Road) over Branch of Mill Creek in Hilltown Township, Bucks County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Monday, January 20, through late May, Route 113 (Souderton Road) will be closed between Bethlehem Pike and Diamond Street. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Diamond Street, Route 152 (East Park Avenue) and Bethlehem Pike. In addition, trucks will be directed to use Route 152 (East Walnut Street/East Park Avenue) and Bethlehem Pike.
Local access will be maintained. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Built in 1922, the existing 13-foot-long, 26-foot-wide structure carries an average of 8,484 vehicles per day.
Souderton Road bridge is one of seven structures in Bucks and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is rehabilitating or replacing under this $7,987,000 project.
Structures that have been completed include:
- Ashbourne Road bridge over Branch of Tookany Creek in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County.
- Lurgan Road bridge over Branch of Pidcock Creek in Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County.
The additional structures in this bridge rehabilitation/replacement project include:
- Wismer Road bridge over Hickory Creek in Plumstead Township, Bucks County.
- Allentown Road over Branch of Unami Creek in Milford Township, Bucks County.
- Black Rock Road over Crossmans Run in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County.
- Linfield Road over Tributary of Schuylkill River in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways including color-coded winter conditions, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
