I-76 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Sinkhole Remediation in Upper Merion Township

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) motorists will encounter a lane closure in one or both directions at various locations between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Route 320 (Gulph Mills) interchanges on Sunday, August 1, through Thursday, August 5, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for construction activities under a project to remediate several sinkhole locations on the interstate in the U.S. 202 Interchange area in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, Monday night, August 2, into early Tuesday morning, August 3, crews will reset temporary barrier and perform line striping operations in order to reopen the left lane and close the right lane on the westbound Interstate 76 collector/distributor ramp to U.S. 202 and U.S. 422, for sinkhole repair. The left lane had been closed since Tuesday, June 1, when sinkhole remediation work began at this location. The right lane will remain closed 24/7 for approximately two months.

During the long-term lane closure on the westbound I-76 collector/distributor ramp, access to all interchanges will remain open to traffic, however, drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County is the general contractor on the $8.3 million sinkhole repair project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
