I-76 East Reduced to Single Lane This Weekend through Tuesday for Bridge Repairs in Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to one lane between the Conshohocken and Gladwyne interchanges from 7:00 AM Saturday, April 18, to 5:00 PM Tuesday, April 21, for repairs to the bridge over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Normal highway and bridge construction projects in Pennsylvania remain paused as part of the commonwealth's efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This project is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services.
In addition to this weekend's eastbound lane closure, restrictions will be in place on westbound I-76 next week in Center City Philadelphia and next weekend in Montgomery County.
The work schedule is:
- Monday, April 20, through Thursday, April 23, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges for viaduct rehabilitation and paving in Philadelphia;
- Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a periodic shoulder closure will be in place on westbound I-76 between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges in Philadelphia for concrete placement to repair support columns under the viaduct in Philadelphia; and
- From 9:00 AM Friday, April 24, to 5:00 AM Tuesday, April 28, westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the Gladwyne and Conshohocken interchanges for expansion dam replacement on the bridge over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County.
Drivers are advised to use an alternate route or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur.
The work, which is weather dependent, is being completed under a $39.8 million contract that includes repairs and repaving of the Center City viaduct as well repairs of the three-span bridge over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) and several other I-76 structures in Montgomery County.
