PennDOT to Resume Construction on Project to Reconstruct U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord Township, Delaware County
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will resume Wednesday, April 22, on the project to improve and widen a 2.5-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord Township, Delaware County. The construction operations this week will not impact traffic.
Normal highway and bridge construction projects in Pennsylvania remain paused as part of the commonwealth's efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This project is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services.
The widening and other improvements are being done under PennDOT's $64.7 million Section 101 contract that began in spring 2017 to reconstruct, widen and upgrade traffic signals and intersections on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Featherbed Lane/Mattson Road near Clayton Park.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The project is scheduled to finish in late 2020.
Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the eastern section of the highway from just east of Clayton Park Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) and to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange.
