I-76 West Lane Restrictions at Night Next Week for Viaduct Rehabilitation in Center City Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions will be in place at night next week on westbound Interstate 76 in Philadelphia and next weekend in Montgomery County for viaduct and bridge repairs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Normal highway and bridge construction projects in Pennsylvania remain paused as part of the commonwealth's efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This project is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services.
The work schedule is:
- Monday, April 13, through Thursday, April 16, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges in Philadelphia for viaduct rehabilitation and paving;
- Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a periodic shoulder closure will be in place on westbound I-76 between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges in Philadelphia for concrete placement under the viaduct; and
- From 9:00 PM Friday, April 17, to 5:00 AM Monday, April 20, westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the Gladwyne and Conshohocken interchanges for expansion dam replacement on the bridge over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County.
Drivers are advised to use an alternate route or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur.
The work, which is weather dependent, is being completed under a $39.8 million contract that includes repairs and repaving of the Center City viaduct as well repairs of the three-span bridge over Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) and several other I-76 structures in Montgomery County.
