Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Rehabilitate Five Bridges in Bucks and Chester Counties

King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 24, on an improvement project to rehabilitate five poor condition bridges in Bucks and Chester counties.

"We've made tremendous progress in improving poor condition bridges throughout the state," Governor Tom Wolf said. "Ensuring a safe and reliable transportation network for all Pennsylvanians is a top priority."

Beginning Monday, June 24, through late August, the bridge carrying Route 313 (Dublin Pike/Swamp Road) over Deep Run Creek will be closed and detoured between Chelfield Road and Applebutter Road in Hilltown Township, Bucks County.

During the closure, Route 313 (Dublin Pike/Swamp Road) motorists will be detoured over Route 113 (Bedminster Road) and Route 611 (Easton Road). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

PennDOT's contractor will replace the existing structure with a concrete box culvert; mill and pave the roadway; install impact attenuators; and replace the guiderail.

Built in 1924, and reconstructed in 1940, the single-span bridge is 14 feet long and 38 feet wide and carries an average of 17,018 vehicles a day.

The other structures included in this bridge rehabilitation project include the following:

  • Route 926 (Street Road) over Radley Run in Westtown and Thornbury townships, Chester County;
  • Butler Avenue over branch of Neshaminy Creek in New Britain Township, Bucks County; and
  • Two Green Valley Road structures over tributary of Brandywine Creek in Newlin Township, Chester County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late 2020.

C. Abbonzino Contractors, Inc. of Sewell, N.J., is the general contractor on this $4,040,779 bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
