Aramingo Avenue Ramp to I-95 South to Close Next Week for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — The ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound Interstate 95 at the Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia will be closed from 9:00 PM Thursday, March 18, until 5:00 AM Friday, March 19, for a traffic pattern shift on the ramp, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the closure, motorists will be directed from Aramingo Avenue to travel east on Cumberland Street, turn right on Richmond Street to Delaware Avenue, turn right on Callowhill Street and follow the signs to the ramp to southbound I-95.

In addition, eastbound Girard Avenue will be closed at the Girard Avenue Interchange area for overhead bridge construction on Monday, March 15, to Friday, March 19, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Eastbound Girard Avenue traffic heading for Richmond Street will be detoured east on Frankford Avenue to Delaware Avenue/Richmond Street.

During construction, Richmond Street will also be closed to through traffic between Lehigh Avenue and Ann Street for overhead construction on the southbound I-95 viaduct. Richmond Street traffic will be detoured on Lehigh Avenue, Aramingo Avenue, and Allegheny Avenue around the closure.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

The work at Girard Avenue is part of the $312 million project currently underway through 2023 to reconstruct southbound I-95 and the southbound Girard Avenue Interchange. For more information, visit www.95revive.com.
