Holme Avenue Lane Closure for Bridge Rehabilitation in Pennypack Park

Westbound Holme Avenue will be narrowed to a single lane between Longford
Street and Arthur Street beginning Monday, February 12, for construction on
the
bridge carrying Holme Avenue over Wooden Bridge Run in Pennypack Park in
Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)
announced
today. The westbound right lane closure will be in place until the bridge
is
completed in June.

PennDOT is rehabilitating the bridge by repairing cracks in the concrete
arch
structure and the headwall beneath the drainage pipe; cleaning debris from
the
stream channel; removing trees that are undermining the abutments and wing
walls; conserving and resetting the bridge plaques; repairing the concrete
pylons; and replacing the balustrade system on the bridge. Once work is
completed, the bridge will no longer be categorized as structurally
deficient.

The one-span concrete arch-deck bridge was built in 1921. It is 86 feet
long
and 80 feet wide and carries an average of 16,611 vehicles a day.

Road-Con Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on
the
$1,329,212 project which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
