U.S. 422 Overnight Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages Scheduled Next Week in
Valley Forge Area

U.S. 422 motorists will encounter left and right lane closures in both
directions next week for beam installation as part of a major project to
build
new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 over the Schuylkill

River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River
Trail
in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, Montgomery
County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced
today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, January 29, through Saturday, February 3, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM
the
following morning, left and right lane closures with periodic 15-minute
traffic
stoppages are scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 between Route 363 (Trooper
Road)
and U.S. 202; and
• Monday, January 29, through Saturday, February 3, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM
the
following morning, left and right lane closures with periodic 15-minute
traffic
stoppages are scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between U.S. 202 and Route
363
(Trooper Road).

In addition to the overnight lane closures on U.S. 422, lane restrictions
with
flagging are planned on Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) between Gulph Road and

Moore Road on Tuesday, January 30, through Thursday, February 1, from 7:00
PM
to 6:00 AM the following morning.

Drivers should allow additional time for travel in both construction zones
because backups and delays will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather

dependent.

The scope of work on this project includes improving U.S. 422 between the
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading

Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and
improving
ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and
First
Avenue interchanges.

Construction on this improvement project began in February 2016 and is
scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97.4 million project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent
state funds.
