Pennsylvania Offers New License Plate Honoring PA National Guard

Pennsylvania Offers New License Plate Honoring PA National Guard

2/28/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard have a new way to proudly show
their
service through the display of a military license plate announced today by
the
Wolf Administration.

"Our Citizen Soldiers have served our commonwealth and the nation with
distinction in both domestic and international arenas," said Governor Tom
Wolf.
"I take pride in sharing the news that their service will be recognized in
this
way."

The new plates feature the standard Pennsylvania license plate colors of
blue,
white, and yellow along with a National Guard-approved emblem on the
left-hand
side of the plate. Pennsylvania is printed at the top of the plate, while
PA
National Guard is printed at the bottom. This plate may only be used on
passenger vehicles and trucks with a registered gross weight of not more
than
14,000 pounds.

"Our members of the National Guard are justifiably proud of their service
to
our state and nation," said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards. "These
new
registration plates give them a way to publicly show that pride daily."

Members of the National Guard interested in applying for one of these
plates
must complete Form MV-150AD, "Application for Members of U.S. Military
Registration Plate." The form requires the service member to certify their
status as a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

"This new plate is an ideal way for our service members to publicly
showcase
their membership in the National Guard. We want to thank our fellow state
agency for providing this service to our National Guard members," said Maj.

Gen. Tony Carrelli, Pennsylvania's adjutant general and head of the
Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

The addition of a registration plate recognizing members of the PA National

Guard completes an assortment of plates available to Pennsylvania residents

with ties to all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Additional information
and
images of a variety of military license plates are available at
www.dmv.pa.gov
via the U.S. Military Veteran Registration Plates Fact Sheet link under the

Resources section of Military Personnel/Veterans Information Center. The

Governor Wolf Announces 35 Municipalities to Improve Traffic Safety with Red Light Enforcement Funds

Governor Wolf Announces 35 Municipalities to Improve Traffic Safety with
Red Light Enforcement Funds

2/26/2018-HARRISBURG

Governor Tom Wolf today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) will distribute nearly $11.5 million in Automated
Red
Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding to 35 municipalities statewide to fund 41
safety projects.

"This program helps communities across the state make investments in
traffic
flow and safety," Governor Wolf said. "These improvements complement the
many
road, bridge, and multimodal projects happening in Pennsylvania."

Under state law, fines from red light violations at 30 intersections in
Philadelphia supply the grant funding. Pennsylvania's ARLE program aims to
improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated
enforcement
at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue.

The law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and
reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted

more than 143 applications, totaling over $34 million in requests.

Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such
as
benefits and effectiveness, cost, local and regional impact, and cost
sharing.

This investment brings the total dollars awarded through the ARLE funding
program since 2010 to $62.87 million, funding 366 safety projects.

The approved projects include:

PennDOT Awards $311.5 Million Contract to Reconstruct and Improve Southbound I-95 Between Allegheny and Columbia Avenues

PennDOT Awards $311.5 Million Contract to Reconstruct and Improve
Southbound I-95 Between Allegheny and Columbia Avenues

2/23/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has awarded a
$311,570,199 contract to James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc., of
Philadelphia to rebuild and improve 1.5 miles of southbound Interstate 95
between Allegheny Avenue and Columbia Avenue in Philadelphia. The project
also
includes replacement of the mile-long I-95 southbound viaduct and the
associated southbound ramps at Girard Avenue.

"This is another major step forward in our long-term plan to reconstruct an

aging mainline I-95 in Philadelphia," said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S.
Richards. "This project is also a unique opportunity to integrate the
PennDOT
Connects initiative and collaborate more closely with the communities the
highway serves to generate affordable and sustainable enhancements that
will
benefit these neighborhoods for generations."

Construction on I-95 Section GR4 is expected to begin in early spring.
Initial
activities will include construction of foundations for new piers that will

support the new southbound viaduct between Ann Street in Port Richmond and
Palmer Street in Fishtown. Early work also will take place at the
southbound
side of the Girard Avenue Interchange.

Removal and reconstruction of the existing southbound viaduct, as well as
construction to replace and improve the at-grade southbound lanes between
Allegheny Avenue and Ann Street, is expected to begin in late 2018 once the
new
northbound viaduct is completed. PennDOT is currently replacing the
northbound
viaduct at Girard Avenue under the $212 million Section GR3 contract.

Once the new northbound viaduct is completed this fall, PennDOT will shift
three southbound lanes onto the new northbound lanes from Allegheny Avenue
to
the new stretch of highway south of Columbia Avenue, which was
reconstructed
under the $39.3 million Section GR2 project that finished in 2016.

The southbound off-ramp at Girard Avenue also will be closed at that time
for
approximately two years to complete reconstruction from the interchange
north.
The on-ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound I-95 at the Girard Avenue
Interchange will remain open during its reconstruction.

During the off-ramp closure, southbound I-95 traffic normally exiting at
Girard
Avenue will be directed to exit at Allegheny Avenue and follow the detour
to
southbound Richmond Street back to the Girard Avenue Interchange area.

The Section GR4 contract will also construct sustainable enhancements
adjacent
to and beneath I-95. Among those features are a multi-use trail;
low-maintenance landscaping; urban stormwater management devices; enhanced
public spaces; LED street and understructure lighting; and thematic
formliners
for decorative treatment of bridge and abutment walls. PennDOT engineers
and
planners worked with the I-95 Sustainable Action Committee and
representatives
from the adjacent community to include these quality-of-life enhancements
in
the reconstruction of I-95. Other improvements include:

• Relocation of Aramingo Avenue between Delaware Avenue/Richmond Street and

Cumberland Street;
• Construction of three retaining walls to support embankments within the
interchange area;
• Installation of noise barrier walls along southbound I-95 from Indiana
Avenue
to Palmer Street and along southbound Aramingo Avenue from Norris Street to
the
southbound on-ramp; and
• Installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices,
including
travel time readers, traffic cameras and dynamic message signs, along I-95,

U.S. 1 and U.S. 322 to assist PennDOT and the City of Philadelphia with
traffic
and incident management.

Construction of I-95 Section GR4 will take approximately four years to
complete. This project is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

I-676 Lane Closures Monday Night for Construction Activities in
Philadelphia

2/22/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

Interstate 676 motorists will encounter alternating eastbound and westbound

lane closures between Interstate 76 and the Broad Street Interchange in
Philadelphia overnight Monday, February 26, for debris removal from behind
the
temporary barriers in place for overhead bridge construction, the
Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Beginning at 9:00 PM Monday, crews will close the right eastbound lane on
I-676
approaching the 23rd Street exit, then move to the westbound side beginning

near the Broad Street exit to complete the cleanup by 5:00 AM Tuesday,
February
27.

If rain causes postponement of Monday's planned activities, the operation
will
take place from 9:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, to 5:00 Wednesday, February
28.

The work is part of PennDOT's $64.8 million project to rebuild seven
deteriorated spans over I-676 between 18th Street and 22nd Street.

Since the project began in August 2016, PennDOT has completed construction
and
reopened five new bridges — 19th Street, Benjamin Franklin Parkway/20th
Street,
two pedestrian bridges between 18th and 20th streets, and 21st Street. The
new
23rd Street overpass remains under construction but is open to traffic and
pedestrians. The new 18th Street bridge over I-676 is scheduled to be
completed
and reopened this spring.

Buckley & Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
