Street Road Bridge over Octoraro Creek Closed in Upper Oxford Township,
Chester County Due to Structural Damage

The bridge carrying Street Road over Octoraro Creek in Upper Oxford
Township,
Chester County was closed today after damage was discovered to the
structure,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The single-lane steel I-beam bridge will remain closed until PennDOT bridge

engineers can examine the structural damage and develop a plan to
rehabilitate
the bridge.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Holmeville Road,
Route
896 (Newark Road/Georgetown Road), Maple Shade Road and Bell Road.

Local access will be maintained up to the bridge. Motorists are advised to
allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The Street Road bridge over Octoraro Creek was originally built in 1880 and

rehabilitated in 2010. The single-span bridge is 111 feet long and 14 feet
wide
and carries an average of 239 vehicles a day. The structure was last
inspected
in December 2016.
