I-676 Lane Closures Monday Night for Construction Activities in
Philadelphia

Interstate 676 motorists will encounter alternating eastbound and westbound

lane closures between Interstate 76 and the Broad Street Interchange in
Philadelphia overnight Monday, February 26, for debris removal from behind
the
temporary barriers in place for overhead bridge construction, the
Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Beginning at 9:00 PM Monday, crews will close the right eastbound lane on
I-676
approaching the 23rd Street exit, then move to the westbound side beginning

near the Broad Street exit to complete the cleanup by 5:00 AM Tuesday,
February
27.

If rain causes postponement of Monday's planned activities, the operation
will
take place from 9:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, to 5:00 Wednesday, February
28.

The work is part of PennDOT's $64.8 million project to rebuild seven
deteriorated spans over I-676 between 18th Street and 22nd Street.

Since the project began in August 2016, PennDOT has completed construction
and
reopened five new bridges — 19th Street, Benjamin Franklin Parkway/20th
Street,
two pedestrian bridges between 18th and 20th streets, and 21st Street. The
new
23rd Street overpass remains under construction but is open to traffic and
pedestrians. The new 18th Street bridge over I-676 is scheduled to be
completed
and reopened this spring.

Buckley & Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
