U.S. 1 North Reduced to One Lane Through Tuesday for Safety Improvement
Project in Bucks County
5/16/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA
Northbound U.S. 1 will remain reduced to one lane at the U.S. 13
Interchange in
Bucks County through Tuesday, May 22, for construction activities related
to a
project to enhance travel and safety on northbound U.S. 1 through the
interchange with U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) and Route 32 in Falls, Middletown
and
Lower Makefield townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT) announced today.
During construction, the exit to northbound Route 32 (Morrisville) will
remain
open to traffic. U.S. 13 motorists entering northbound U.S. 1 at the
interchange must continue onto U.S. 1.
Then next week, from 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22, through 5:00 AM the next
morning, the contractor will set barriers for a new traffic pattern which
will
allow for two through lanes on northbound U.S. 1. Under this new pattern,
the
exit to northbound Route 32 (Morrisville) will remain open to traffic. U.S.
13
motorists entering northbound U.S. 1 at the interchange must continue onto
U.S.
1.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
zone
because slowdowns will occur during construction. All scheduled activities
are
weather dependent.
When completed, this project will improve U.S. 1 by providing northbound
motorists two through lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32, thereby
removing the "exit only" lane that currently exists for northbound drivers
at
this interchange. In addition, a concrete barrier will be placed between
U.S. 1
north and the on-ramp from U.S. 13 to eliminate the substandard weave
condition
that currently exists when U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) drivers enter U.S. 1 and
weave through traffic to reach the Route 32 exit ramp.
The scope of the project also includes replacement of overhead signs
throughout
the project area as well as placement of a high-friction surface treatment
on
U.S. 1 south in the area of Route 32. Construction of an additional
auxiliary
lane along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road has already been
completed
under this project.
James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
$2,327,110 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
Construction is expected to be completed this summer.
