PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Leslie S. Richards today recognized 30 PennDOT employees for their outstanding performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT's highest recognition. Two employees from PennDOT's District 6, which represents Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties were among the honorees.
"Every day, I am reminded of our employees' dedication, their excellent customer service, and in many cases, their sacrifices," said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards. "The accomplishments of our Stars of Excellence exemplify PennDOT's mission to provide the very best transportation services to Pennsylvanians every day.
Local winners Vincent Cerbone and Marilyn Musiowski were honored this afternoon at an awards luncheon at the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg.
"Vince and Marilyn's dedication to their work helps make District 6 more efficient in its traffic operations and helps elevate our efforts every day to keep our highways safe and beautiful," said PennDOT District 6 Executive Kenneth M. McClain.
Vincent Cerbone is the District 6Traffic Control Specialist Manager effectively leading the Philadelphia region's Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for the Philadelphia region. Cerbone's utilization of newer technologies and his responsiveness to constituent concerns have helped the district become more efficient in its operations. Cerbone routinely collaborates with maintenance staff to implement safety improvements in concert with resurfacing projects to reduce costs and extend the service life of the pavement. This enhanced efficiency stems from Cerbone's use of Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping which has helped save the department an estimated $25,000 each year. Cerbone also mentors his team members closely to provide a positive and motivating work atmosphere.
Marilyn Musiowski is an invaluable resource to the department, specifically with the administration of Bucks County's Adopt-A-Highway program (AAH). Her commitment to cultivating AAH groups and her attention to detail has helped reduce litter removal expenditures, and has provided a tremendous service to Pennsylvania citizens by keeping our roadways clean.. Musiowski does meticulous research when recommending AAH cleanup locations and strategizes with maintenance forces to prioritize highways that need the most attention. Her coordination efforts with the 253 volunteer groups, covering more than 530 miles of highway, have saved the department approximately $107,352 per year. Musiowski works diligently to expand the AAH program and recruit more groups through thoughtful and effective presentations delivered to employees, legislators and other regional partners.
The Star of Excellence Awards are presented annually to employees who represent the department's values of service, performance and integrity. The recipients represent a variety of organizational positions, spanning from highway maintenance and driver and vehicle services workers, to traffic control specialists, communications staff and design and engineering specialists.
