PennDOT to Resurface Six Miles of U.S. 1 in Chester County

PennDOT to Resurface Six Miles of U.S. 1 in Chester County

3/22/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 29, to repair and
resurface
nearly six miles of U.S. 1 between Hopewell Road and Route 896 (Newark
Road) in
East Nottingham, Lower Oxford and Upper Oxford townships, the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

Crews will work Tuesday, March 29 through Saturday, April 2, from 7:00 AM
to
5:00 AM, to mill the left lane on northbound U.S. 1 between Hopewell Road
and
Route 10. Then over the next four weeks, the contractor will work Mondays
through Saturdays from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM to repave the highway.
Construction
is expected to be completed in late April.

PennDOT's contractor will mill the existing deteriorated riding surface and

install a new asphalt pavement on the four-lane expressway to provide
smoother
travel. In addition, crews will repave the ramps at the U.S. 1 interchanges
at
Route 472 and Route 10.

U.S. 1 motorists should allow additional time for travel during
construction
because slowdowns will occur.

The improvement of U.S. 1 is part of PennDOT's $5.2 million project to
repair
and resurface 21 miles of deteriorated pavement on three state highways in
Chester County, with funding from the state's transportation plan, Act 89.

In July 2015, PennDOT's contractor resurfaced Waterloo Avenue between
Sugartown
Road and U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) in Easttown Township. The third state
highway scheduled for resurfacing is Route 10 (Limestone Road/Church
Street/Octorara Trail) between Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and U.S. 30
(Lincoln
Highway). The resurfacing of Route 10 is expected to start in May 2016 and
finish in June 2016.

Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor
on the $5,205,555 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
