U.S. 422 Night Lane Closures Scheduled through May for Shoulder
Reconstruction between Route 363 and 1st Avenue Interchanges

Nighttime lane closures are scheduled on U.S. 422 between the Route 363
(Trooper Road) and 1st Avenue interchanges in Montgomery County and Chester

County on Sunday through Thursday nights, beginning Sunday, March 20, and
continuing until late May, for shoulder reconstruction, the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

This operation is associated with the $97.4 million project to build new,
wider
bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill
River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River
Trail
in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project
also
includes the improvement of the expressway and ramps at the Route 363
(Trooper
Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and 1st Avenue interchanges.

Initially, U.S. 422 will be reduced from two lanes to one in both
directions on
the nights of Sunday, March 20, to Thursday, March 24, and Sunday, March
27, to
Thursday, March 31. The eastbound lane closure will be in effect each night

from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and the westbound lane
closure
will be in place from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning.

Crews will work at night through late May to rebuild shoulders on U.S. 422
so
the shoulders can carry vehicular traffic during later stages of
construction.
The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

The speed limit within the U.S. 422 work zone is reduced to 45 miles per
hour.
Motorists are advised to reduce their travel speeds and be alert of crews
working on the highway.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds. Construction is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
