I-95 North Lane Closures at Night Next Week Ahead of Southbound Reconstruction at Girard Avenue
King of Prussia, PA - Lane closures will be in place at night next week on northbound Interstate 95 between Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue in Philadelphia as crews begin the setup of a new traffic pattern for the $311.6 million southbound reconstruction at the Girard Avenue Interchange that is scheduled to begin later this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Crews will work Wednesday, September 12, through Friday, September 14, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, moving and placing barrier for a crossover that will be established just north of Allegheny Avenue. The crossover will allow three lanes of southbound traffic to shift to the northbound side for demolition and replacement of the southbound viaduct, reconstruction of the northbound at-grade pavement, and construction of new southbound off and on-ramps at Girard Avenue.
The traffic shift is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of September 21-23, with demolition of the southbound viaduct set to begin immediately after the traffic shift.
In addition to the northbound lane restrictions between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes to three between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges on Friday, September 14, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for surveying.
The surveying is part of the advance engineering activities related to upcoming reconstruction of I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 through the work areas. All scheduled operations are weather dependent.
