U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Lane Closures Next Week for Construction in Concord Township, Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA - Periodic daytime and overnight lane closures will be in place next week on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Clayton Park Drive in Concord Township, Delaware County, for construction to improve and widen the highway.

On Monday, October 1,  through Friday, October 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Wednesday, October 3, and Thursday, October 4, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, flaggers will direct an alternating single lane of traffic on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) through various work areas along the 2.6-mile construction zone.

In addition, a section of Evergreen Drive will be closed at the intersection with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from 6:00 PM Sunday, September 30, until 6:00 PM Monday, October 1, for reconstruction to improve the south side of the intersection.

During the closure, which will affect approximately 500-feet of Evergreen Drive south of the intersection, access will be maintained to all businesses and residents, and SEPTA bus routes will continue to operate on Evergreen Drive from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). Motorists will be directed to use the Evergreen Drive intersection at U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). The work was originally scheduled for September 23-24 but was postponed due to rain.

Motorists should expect significant delays on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway), allow extra time for travel through the work areas, or use an alternate route. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

During the daytime and nighttime operations, crews on the $62.2 million project are paving two new eastbound lanes, completing excavation for widening in several areas, and reconstructing the eastbound side of several intersections.

PennDOT began construction in spring 2017 on the first-of-two mainline projects to widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County. Work on the first mainline section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction on this section is expected to start in 2020.

An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange is under design.
