I-95 Lane Closures, Stoppages at Night Next Week for Traffic Pattern Setup for Southbound Reconstruction at Girard Avenue

King of Prussia, PA - Lane restrictions will be in place at night next week on northbound and southbound Interstate 95 between the Interstate 676 and Allegheny Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia as crews continue the setup of a new traffic pattern for the $311.6 million southbound reconstruction at the Girard Avenue Interchange that is scheduled to begin in early October, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The schedule is:
  • Monday, September 24, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-three between the I-676 and Girard Avenue interchanges for barrier placement;
  • Monday, September 24, through Wednesday, September 26, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-two between the Girard Avenue and I-676 interchanges for barrier placement;
  • Wednesday, September 26, from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-one and intermittent brief stoppages will occur between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for joint sealing on the new concrete pavement; and
  • Thursday, September 27, and Friday, September 28, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-three between the Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges for barrier placement and installation of traffic monitoring equipment.
The traffic shift is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 5-6, with demolition of the southbound viaduct set to begin immediately after the traffic shift.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled operation is weather dependent.
