U.S. 422 West Daytime Lane Closures Scheduled for Tree Trimming in Pottstown Area
King of Prussia, PA – Westbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter a full closure at night and short-term single lane closures during the day next week from Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) to the split with Benjamin Franklin Highway in Pottstown Borough and West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County; North Coventry Township, Chester County; and Douglass Township, Berks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedule is:
- Monday, September 24, through Saturday, September 29, from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, short-term single lane closures are planned on westbound U.S. 422; and
- Wednesday, September 26, and Thursday, September 27, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, westbound U.S. 422 will be closed and detoured. During the overnight closure, U.S. 422 motorists will be directed to take northbound Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and High Street/Benjamin Franklin Highway to access westbound U.S. 422.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
This operation is part of a project to rebuild 1.2 miles of U.S. 422 from just east of the Schuylkill River bridge to just west of the Montgomery County line.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT is reconstructing U.S. 422 on both existing and new alignments; reconfiguring the U.S. 422/Stowe Interchange to a diamond configuration; removing and replacing the existing ramps and culverts; installing new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, message boards, cameras, signing, pavement markings, lighting, concrete median barriers, median glare screens and guide rail; upgrading stormwater management facilities and pipes; and constructing and restoring wetlands.
H & K Group, Inc. of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $35,581,408 improvement project which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.
