U.S. 422 Overnight Lane Closures Next Week for Construction in Valley Forge Area
King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter lane closures between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Oaks interchanges on Sunday, September 9, through Thursday, September 13, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM in the eastbound direction and 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM in the westbound direction, for barrier realignment as part of a project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
In addition, from 7:00 PM Friday, September 14, to 12:00 PM Saturday, September 15, left and right lane closures with intermittent traffic stoppages are planned on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Oaks and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) interchanges so crews can establish a new traffic pattern for eastbound motorists. By 12:00 PM Saturday, September 15, eastbound traffic will be temporarily using the westbound lanes while construction continues on the eastbound side of the highway.
Drivers should allow additional time for travel in the construction zone because backups and delays will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent.
The scope of work on this project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges.
Construction on this improvement project began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $97.4 million project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
