Wolf Administration Announces Start of Construction to Replace Three Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) Bridges in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 17, on a project to replace three poor condition bridges carrying Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) over Unami Creek, Ridge Valley Creek and the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek in Upper Salford and Marlborough townships, Montgomery County.

"This project is another example of PennDOT's commitment to improving our transportation network and reducing the large backlog of poor condition bridges statewide," said Governor Tom Wolf.

On Monday, December 17, tree clearing operations are scheduled on Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Long Mill Road and Shady Lane. Motorists can expect weekday lane closures from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Thursday, December 20.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) is expected to be closed and detoured in May 2019 during the construction of the Unami Creek and Ridge Valley Creek bridges.  Work is planned on both bridges simultaneously to minimize impacts to traffic.

The Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) bridge over East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek will remain open during construction as the bridge will be built in stages using half-width construction which is expected to begin in March 2019.

H & K Group, Inc., of Skippack, PA is the general contractor on the $9,565,527 project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

The entire project is expected to be completed in spring of 2021.
