PennDOT Opens Newly Built U.S. 422 West Exit Ramp to Armand Hammer
Boulevard in Lower Pottsgrove Township

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced
that it
will open the newly built off-ramp from U.S. 422 west to Armand Hammer
Boulevard in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, on Tuesday,
December
6.

The entrance to the new exit ramp on U.S. 422 west will be located
approximately a half mile west of where motorists currently exit the
highway to
reach Armand Hammer Boulevard. The new ramp is safer and wider with new
adaptive traffic signals to improve traffic flow through the intersection
at
Armand Hammer Boulevard.

In preparation for opening the ramp, the right lane on U.S. 422 west will
be
closed between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges on
Tuesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 7, from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for

moving concrete barriers and installing traffic signs.

In addition, crews will shift two westbound U.S. 422 travel lanes onto the
newly constructed pavement on the right side of the highway between the
Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard exits. The new ramp will provide a
dedicated right turn lane and a center through and left turn lane.

This operation, which is weather dependent, is part of PennDOT's $73.3
million
project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724

(Schuylkill Road) interchanges, and construct new bridges over the
Schuylkill
River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. Construction on the entire
project
is scheduled to finish in October 2018.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S.
422
structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk
Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River
bridge
to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the
Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning
ramps at
the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and
realigning
the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage;
erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future
Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and
signs.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
