Travel Restrictions Scheduled Next Week on U.S. 422 and Route 23 for
Conduit and Signal Work in Valley Forge Area

12/9/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Lane restrictions are scheduled next week on U.S. 422 in Chester County,
and
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) in Montgomery County, for conduit and signal
work,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, December 12, through Thursday, December 15, from 11:00 AM to 1:00
PM,
the right lane and shoulder will close on eastbound and westbound U.S. 422
between the U.S. 202 and First Avenue interchanges in Tredyffrin Township,
Chester County, for conduit installation; and

• Monday, December 12, and Tuesday, December 13, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM,
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) will be reduced to a single lane between Moore Road
and
Gulph Road in Upper Merion and West Norriton townships, Montgomery County,
for
signal reconfiguration. Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on U.S. 422 and
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) during this operation because slowdowns will occur.
The
contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

The operations are part of PennDOT's $97.4 million project to build new,
wider
structures to improve travel on U.S. 422 at its crossings over the
Schuylkill
River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and the Schuylkill
River
Trail. The project also includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23
(Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving
ramps at
the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue

interchanges.

PennDOT began construction on this transportation improvement project in
February 2016 and the project is scheduled to finish in May 2020. Without
the
passage of Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan, construction on this

project would not have begun before 2018.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent
state funds.
