PennDOT Reopens Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge in East Pikeland Township,
Chester County

4/6/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) this afternoon
reopened
the historic Rapps Dam Road covered bridge over French Creek in East
Pikeland
Township, Chester County, following repairs to the structure, which was
struck
by a vehicle on March 29, 2018.

PennDOT crews will return in the coming weeks to perform additional work to

further repair and restore the historic covered bridge.

Built in 1866, the Rapps Dam Road covered bridge was reconstructed in 1978
and
2011, and underwent major repairs in 2015 after it was severely damaged
when
struck by a tractor trailer.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the structure is 106
feet
long and 14 feet wide. The bridge carries an average of 3,600 vehicles a
day.
