Chew Avenue and Olney Avenue Overnight Closures Scheduled for Resurfacing
Operations in Philadelphia

Segments of Chew Avenue and Olney Avenue will be closed overnight between
Mount
Airy Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) in Philadelphia, on Wednesday,
June
13, through Friday, June 15, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for paving operations
as
part of a project to repair and resurface 20 miles of state highway in
Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)
announced
today.

The work schedule is:

• Wednesday, June 13, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Chew Avenue will be closed
and
detoured between Mount Airy Avenue and Washington Lane;
• Thursday, June 14, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Chew Avenue will be closed
and
detoured between Washington Lane and Wister Street; and
• Friday, June 15, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Chew Avenue/Olney Avenue will
be
closed and detoured between Wister Street and Broad Street (Route 611).

Chew Avenue and Olney Avenue motorists will be detoured over Stenton Avenue

during this three-night closure. Local access will be maintained for
residents
in the impacted areas.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
area
because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the

weather.

State highways completed under this resurfacing project include:

• Academy Road between Knights Road and the Interstate 95 Interchange; and
• Knights Road between U.S. 13 (Frankford Avenue) and the bridge over
Poquessing Creek.

Additional state highway scheduled for resurfacing under this contract
include:

• Erie Avenue between U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) and Kensington Avenue.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway
surface
and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will
seal
the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

James J. Anderson Construction Co., Inc., of Philadelphia, is the general
contractor on the $7,196,303 project, which is financed with 100 percent
state
funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2018.
