U.S. 322 Daytime Restrictions Next Week for Improvement Project in Concord

Periodic daytime lane closures will be in place next week on U.S. 322
(Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Clayton
Park
Drive in Concord Township, Delaware County, for construction on the $62.2
million project to improve and widen the highway, the Pennsylvania
Department
of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
flaggers will direct an alternating single lane of traffic on U.S. 322
(Conchester Highway) through various work areas along the 2.6-mile
construction
zone. These daytime operations will continue through late fall.

In addition, Spring Valley Road will be closed to through traffic between
Fellowship Road and U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) for approximately three
months beginning at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26, for construction on the
eastbound side of the intersection. During the closure, motorists will be
detoured on Fellowship Drive.

Motorists should expect significant delays on U.S. 322 (Conchester
Highway),
allow extra time for travel through the work areas, or use an alternate
route.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews continue excavation to prepare for construction of two new eastbound
lanes later this year and for installation of stormwater drainage basins
across
the work zone. Night work also will include barrier adjustments and other
work
to set a new traffic pattern on Evergreen Lane approaching the intersection

with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway).

PennDOT began construction in spring 2017 on the first-of-two mainline
projects
to widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester
Highway)
from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in
Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County. Work on
the
first mainline section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) is scheduled to be
completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.

Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the
eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park

Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction on this
section
is expected to start in 2019.

An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge
over
the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent
Bethel
Road Interchange is under design.
