PennDOT to Rehabilitate Keebler Road Bridge in Upper Merion Township

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 20, to rehabilitate the
township-owned Keebler Road bridge over Abrams Run in Upper Merion
Township,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

Keebler Road will be closed and detoured between General Knox Road and
Route 23
(West Valley Forge Road) through August 2016 while crews replace the
deteriorated bridge deck and beams. During construction, Keebler Road
through
traffic will be detoured over Allendale Road and Route 23 (West Valley
Forge
Road).

The single-span, prestressed adjacent box beam bridge was built in 1960. It
is
38 feet long and 58 feet wide. It carries 4,600 vehicles a day. The bridge
is
posted with a 28-ton weight limit.

The improvement of the Keebler Road bridge is part of PennDOT's $2.4
million
project to rehabilitate five township-owned, structurally deficient bridges
in
Montgomery County. This local bridge improvement project was enabled
through
Act 89 legislation, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

In addition to Keebler Road, PennDOT's contractor will replace the
superstructures (bridge decks and beams) on the Trewigtown Road bridge over

Neshaminy Creek in Hatfield Township; and Remington Road bridge over west
branch of Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township. Construction on the Violet

Lane bridge over the east branch of Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township,
Montgomery County, was completed on June 7, 2016 and work on the Oreland
Mill
Road bridge over Sunnybrook Creek in Springfield Township, Montgomery
County
will be completed on Monday, June 13, 2016.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$2,684,206 project. The rehabilitation of the five bridges is expected to
be
completed in late 2016. The project is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
