PennDOT to Rehabilitate Trewigtown Road Bridge in Hatfield Township
6/29/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 18, to rehabilitate the
township-owned Trewigtown Road bridge over a tributary of the Neshaminy
Creek
in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.
Trewigtown Road will be closed and detoured between Anthony Drive and Line
Lexington Road through October 2016 while crews replace the deteriorated
bridge
deck and beams. During construction, Trewigtown Road through traffic will
be
detoured over Line Lexington Road and Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike).
The single-span, prestressed adjacent box beam bridge was built in 1975. It
is
39 feet long and 44 feet wide. It carries 600 vehicles a day. The bridge is
posted with a 24-ton weight limit.
The improvement of the Trewigtown Road bridge is part of PennDOT's $2.4
million
project to rehabilitate five township-owned, structurally deficient bridges
in
Montgomery County. This local bridge improvement project was enabled
through
Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
Trewigtown Road is the fifth and final bridge to move to construction under
this project. Construction on the Violet Lane bridge over the east branch
of
Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township, was completed on June 7, 2016, and
work
on the Oreland Mill Road bridge over Sunnybrook Creek in Springfield
Township,
was completed on June 13, 2016. Work on the Keebler Road bridge over Abrams
Run
in Upper Merion Township began on June 20, 2016, and will be completed in
August 2016. Construction on the Remington Road bridge over the west branch
of
Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township, began Monday, July 11, and will be
completed in October 2016.
J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$2,684,206 project. The rehabilitation of the five bridges is expected to
be
completed in late 2016. The project is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
