PennDOT Marks Completion of Edge Hill Road Bridge over Route 611 (Old York
Road) in Abington Township

11/3/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) joined elected
officials today to celebrate the opening of the newly built bridge carrying

Edge Hill Road over Route 611 (Old York Road) in Abington Township,
Montgomery
County. The bridge will officially open to traffic later today.

"We are excited to deliver this new bridge to the thousands of motorists
and
pedestrians who travel and rely on this busy corridor every day," PennDOT
Assistant District 6 Executive for Construction George Dunheimer said. "The

completion of this structure ensures, that with proper maintenance,
travelers
will have a safe and reliable bridge through the next century."

PennDOT's contractor rehabilitated the structurally deficient bridge Edge
Hill
Road bridge by replacing the existing superstructure which included the
concrete deck slab. Crews also repaired the support abutments; installed
new
sidewalks; and performed repairs to the existing pedestrian stairways.

The one-span, steel girder bridge was built in 1947. It is 113 feet long
and 37
feet wide and carries an average of 7,147 vehicles a day.

While the bridge has reopened to traffic, the contractor does have
additional
work to perform underneath the structure which will require lane
restrictions
on Route 611 (Old York Road) between Jericho Road and Hamilton Avenue, on
Monday, November 6, through Friday, November 10, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
area.
The schedule is weather dependent.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$3.6 million project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
