PennDOT to Begin Rehabilitation of Ross Fording Road Bridge over Octorara
Creek in Chester County

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, November 27, on a project to
rehabilitate the bridge carrying Ross Fording Road over Octorara Creek in
West
Fallowfield Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The bridge has been closed since July 2015, when it was damaged by a large
vehicle.

During the closure, Ross Fording Road motorists will continue to use Bryson

Road, Homeville Road, Route 896 (Newark Road) and Creek Road.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area
because slowdowns may occur. Local access will be maintained up to the
construction zone.

As part of this bridge improvement project, crews will perform steel
repairs;
replace the existing timber deck; perform stone masonry repairs at the
abutments; install new approach guiderail; and mill and overlay the bridge
approaches.

Built in 1885 and rehabilitated in 2013, the single-span steel truss bridge
is
89 feet long and 16 feet wide. The structure carries about 163 vehicles a
day.

The Ross Fording Road bridge is one of nine structures in Chester and
Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project
financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.

The bridge carrying Route 63 (Welsh Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in

Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County, was completed

this summer.

The other bridges included in this rehabilitation project include:

• Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
• Boot Road over Route 100 in West Whiteland Township, Chester County;
• Route 611 over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
• Route 611 over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramp in Upper Moreland,
Montgomery
County;
• Quakertown Road over Macoby Creek in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery
County; and
• Linfield Road over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township,
Montgomery
County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
