Lane Closures Planned on Several State Highways in Bucks County and Philadelphia for Sign Installations

Lane Closures Planned on Several State Highways in Bucks County and
Philadelphia for Sign Installations

4/1/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today
that
periodic short-term lane closures are planned next week on several state
highways in Bucks and Philadelphia counties for sign installations as part
of
the I-95/I-295 Redesignation Project underway in Pennsylvania and New
Jersey.

The approved redesignation includes the conversion of about 20 miles of
existing I‐95, north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, over the Scudder Falls
Bridge into New Jersey, to its existing terminus at U.S. 1 / Interstate
295. In
Pennsylvania, this requires 10.4 miles of I-95 in Bucks County, from the
Pennsylvania Turnpike to the Scudder Falls Bridge, to be redesignated as
I-295
East (toward New Jersey) / West (toward Philadelphia). Concurrently, the
section of what is now I-95 in New Jersey is becoming I-295 by extending
the
existing I-295 from the U.S. 1 Interchange to the Delaware River.

As a result of this redesignation, the following four interchanges will be
renumbered on I-95 in Bucks County over the next several months:

• Business U.S. 1 (Levittown/Penndel): New Exit Number 3 (currently 44);
• U.S. 1 (Morrisville/Langhorne/Trenton): New Exit Number 5 (currently 46);
• Route 332 (Newtown/Yardley): New Exit Number 8 (currently 49); and
• New Hope/Yardley: New Exit Number 10 (currently 51).

Highway signs, including exit signs and mile markers, will be replaced on
the
mainline and approaches/ramps of I-95 to reflect the redesignation of the
interstate and exit numbers. The previous exit numbers will be temporarily
displayed along with the new exit numbers through late summer or early
fall.

Beginning Monday, April 2, through Friday, April 6, from 8:00 PM to 5:00
AM,
periodic short-term lane closures are planned on the following highways and

ramps approaching or connecting I-95:

• U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) in Bucks County;
• Route 132 (Street Road) in Bucks County;
• Interstate 676 in Philadelphia;
• Route 63 (Woodhaven Road) in Philadelphia;
• Academy Road in Philadelphia;
• Torresdale Avenue in Philadelphia;
• Linden Avenue in Philadelphia;
• Princeton Avenue in Philadelphia;
• Vine Street in Philadelphia;
• 7th Street in Philadelphia; and
• Race Street in Philadelphia.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work
areas
when under construction because backups and delays will occur. The
contractor's
schedule is weather dependent.

PennDOT is working with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Authority, Delaware River

Joint Toll Bridge Commission, New Jersey Turnpike Authority and NJDOT on
this
redesignation project to ensure effective traffic flow on major interstate
highways.

The redesignation is part of a larger project in which a new interchange is

being constructed to connect I-95 to I-276/Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bristol

Township, Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Turnpike connects to the New
Jersey
Turnpike at Interchange 6 via the New Jersey Turnpike Pearl Harbor Memorial

Turnpike Extension in Florence, New Jersey. When the new I-95/Pennsylvania
Turnpike interchange is completed in Bristol this summer, these highways
will
be redesignated as I-95, which will create a continuous I-95 from
Pennsylvania
through New Jersey.
