Streets for Bridge Construction in Philadelphia

Chestnut Street will be reduced from two-lanes-to-one between 24th and 23rd

streets in Center City Philadelphia for approximately six months beginning
Wednesday night, June 6, for the expansion of construction to rehabilitate
the
stone arch bridge over 24th Street, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Crews will work from 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 6, to 5:00 AM Thursday, June
7, to
move construction barrier to establish a new, single-lane pattern from
approaching 24th Street through the intersection with 23rd Street. Chestnut

Street was reduced to two lanes with no parking between 24th and 23rd
streets
last December for the start of work on the bridge.

The south sidewalk on Chestnut Street will remain closed, and parking will
continue to be eliminated on Chestnut Street between 24th and 23rd streets.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time
for
travel on Chestnut Street through the work area. The scheduled activity is
subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Crews are rehabilitating the south side of the Chestnut Street arch bridge
over
24th Street as part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to repair the
Chestnut
Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and seven other nearby structures,
including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street
and
Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street. The entire
project is scheduled to finish in fall 2020.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
