Darby Paoli Road Lane Restrictions Next Week for Tree Clearing for Bridge Replacement in Radnor Township

King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Darby Paoli Road between Brooke Road and Newtown Road in Radnor Township, Delaware County on Tuesday, January 21, through Friday, January 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for tree clearing operations under a project to replace two bridges that carry Darby Paoli Road over Little Darby Creek and Wigwam Run.

Motorists can expect periodic flagging at this location weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for tree clearing operations and utility construction through summer 2020 when the road will be fully closed for replacement of the bridge over Wigwam Run.

Darby Paoli Road is currently closed between Newtown Road and Godfrey Road for replacement of the bridge over Little Darby Creek under the same project. During the closure, Darby-Paoli Road motorists will continue to be detoured over Goshen Road, Route 252 (Newtown Street Road) and St. David's Road.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near or through the work areas because slowdowns will occur.

The new bridge over Wigwam Run will be a single span 8-foot by 6-foot reinforced box culvert. The new span over Little Darby Creek will be a single span 20-foot by 12-foot reinforced box culvert. The new structures will carry 12-foot wide travel lanes and four-foot wide shoulders. The walls on both bridges will be adorned with natural stone facing.

This project was driven by the need to replace both bridges that are rated in fair condition. Originally built circa 1905 and 1935, improvements are needed to enhance the safety and operations of the two bridges because of their age and state of deterioration.

Richard E. Pierson Construction Co., Inc., of Woodstown, NJ is the general contractor on the $2,369,504 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in fall of 2020.
