PennDOT to Repair Steelville Road Bridge in Chester and Lancaster Counties

5/3/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced
that
construction will begin Monday, May 16 to repair and resurface the
deteriorated
deck on the Steelville Road bridge over the east branch of the Octoraro
Creek
in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County, and Sadsbury Township,
Lancaster
County. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-June.

Crews are scheduled to remove the existing asphalt riding surface on the
bridge; repair the concrete subbase; waterproof the deck; and then place a
new
asphalt surface on the structure. This bridge improvement project will
extend
the life of the bridge and provide motorists with a smoother riding
surface.

The Steelville Road bridge will be closed and detoured during construction.
The
posted detour will take through traffic over Route 41 (Newport Gap Road),
Route
10 (Limestone Road), Edenton Road, Route 896 (Newark Road) and Creek Road.
Local access will be maintained up to the construction area. Motorists are
advised to allow additional time for travel.

The two-span concrete T-beam bridge was built in 1941. The
structurally-deficient bridge is 27 feet wide and 87 feet long. It carries
447
vehicles a day. Following the completion of this project, the bridge will
no
longer be classified as structurally deficient.

Eastern Highway Specialists, Inc. of Wilmington, Del. is the general
contractor
for the project. This bridge improvement is part of a $1.4 million contract
to
repair bridge decks and seal joints to preserve and maintain structures in
the
five-county Philadelphia region.
