Route 23 Closed in Upper Merion Township Due to Sinkhole-Related Pavement
Damage

5/6/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Route 23 (Schuylkill River Road) was closed this afternoon between B Street
and
McCoys Lane in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, due to pavement
damage
resulting from an underground sinkhole, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation said today.

During the road closure, northbound Route 23 (Schuylkill River Road)
through
traffic is detoured over Route 320 (Swedeland Road), South Gulph Road,
Henderson Road, U.S. 202 North (DeKalb Street) and Ford Street. Southbound
Route 23 (E. 4th Street/Schuylkill River Road) drivers will follow Ford
Street,
U.S. 202 South, Henderson Road, South Gulph Road and Route 320 (Swedeland
Road). Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel during this road

closure.

Suncap Property Group LLC recently widened this area of Route 23
(Schuylkill
River Road) and installed a high volume driveway for a new business
development
being built along Route 23 (Schuylkill River Road). This work was performed

under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. The contractor, Allan A. Myers,
LP of
Worcester, Montgomery County, will work this weekend to fill the
underground
void and repair the damaged pavement.

Route 23 (Schuylkill River Road) will reopen at the completion of
construction,
which is expected to last the better part of the weekend, weather
permitting.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by
