PennDOT to Repair Green Valley Road Bridge over Brandywine Creek in Newlin
Township, Chester County

4/5/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that
construction will begin today (April 5) to repair the bridge carrying Green

Valley Road over the west branch of Brandywine Creek in Newlin Township,
Chester County. The bridge has been closed since May 2016 following a
bridge
inspection that detected severe structural deterioration of the steel
beams.

Crews will work this month to rehabilitate the bridge deck in order to
reopen
the structure to vehicles weighing 16 tons or less.

During construction, Green Valley Road motorists will continue to be
detoured
over Powell Road and Brandywine Creek Road. Weather permitting, the bridge
is
expected to reopen in late April.

The Green Valley Road bridge was built in 1937. It is 13 feet long, 18.5
feet
wide and carries about 100 vehicle a day. The bridge was posted with a
weight
limit of 19 tons and 28 tons for combination loads at the time of its
closure.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by
