PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients

PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients

5/17/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Leslie S.

Richards today recognized 30 PennDOT employees for their outstanding
performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT's highest
recognition.
Two employees from PennDOT's District 6, which represents Bucks, Chester,
Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties were among the honorees.

"The Star of Excellence award illustrates that these employees take to
heart
our mission of providing the most effective and efficient transportation
services for the roughly 12 million people of Pennsylvania," Richards said.

"They demonstrate a strong culture of service and caring that makes a big
difference for the people of Pennsylvania."

Local winners Brian Early and John Clancy were honored this afternoon at an

awards luncheon at the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg.

"Brian and John are exemplary employees who continue to elevate the high
level
of service we provide day-in and day-out to our customers," PennDOT
District
Executive Kenneth M. McClain said. "Their direct contributions have also
saved
taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Senior Assistant Construction Engineer Brian Early's leadership and
construction management skills illustrates what it means to deliver
high-quality service to PennDOT customers in the Philadelphia region. Brian
has
managed several multi-million-dollar construction projects, including
improvements on U.S. 202, U.S. 422 and Route 309 that have impacted
hundreds of
thousands of travelers. Brian has a long list of accomplishments, which
includes saving taxpayers more than two million dollars through efficiency
and
the development and implementation of project modifications that have
reduced
construction costs.

District 6-4 Highway Foreman 2 John Clancy takes tremendous pride in his
work
and always strives to deliver the best product to PennDOT customers. John's

long list of achievements includes the implementation of a nighttime crack
sealing program in 2016. The program exceeded expectations with the crack
sealing of 400 miles across Montgomery County. Because only one crew was
needed
to perform the operation, the Department could redirect other crews to
different maintenance operations throughout the County to provide
additional
value to customers and save taxpayers more than $250,000.

The Star of Excellence Awards are presented annually to employees who
represent
the department's values of service, performance and integrity. The
recipients
represent a variety of organizational positions, spanning from highway
maintenance and driver and vehicle services workers, to traffic control
specialists, communications staff and design and engineering specialists.
