Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on Bridge Rehabilitations in
Bucks, Chester and Montgomery Counties

The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to
begin
next month on a $5.5 million project to rehabilitate 10 structurally
deficient
bridges in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties.

"Rehabilitating these bridges will help maintain mobility and connectivity
throughout southeastern Pennsylvania," Governor Tom Wolf said. "The project
is
focused on maintenance and repairs of these existing bridges to extend
their
service life, and most importantly, ensure the safety of those traveling
within
the Commonwealth."

Beginning Monday, June 12, the Spring Garden Street Bridge over Interstate
76
will be closed between Chestnut Street and Spruce Lane in West Conshohocken

Borough, Montgomery County.

During construction, Spring Garden Street motorists will be detoured over
Crawford Avenue, Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) and Spring Garden
Street.
Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

As part of the rehabilitation, crews will repair the existing concrete
bridge
deck using hydro demolition and apply a latex modified concrete overlay,
reseal
deck joints at the abutments, install new guiderail as well as complete
other
scheduled repairs. Construction on the bridge is expected to be completed
in
July.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area
because slowdowns will occur. The work schedule is weather dependent.

The one-span, steel-frame bridge was built in 1951. It is 87 feet long and
29
feet wide. The structure carries about 490 vehicles a day.

The other bridges included in this rehabilitation project include the
following:

• Thatcher Road over Tohickon Creek in Richland Township, Bucks County;
• Thatcher Road over Dimple Creek in Haycock Township, Bucks County;
• U.S. 1 over Church Road in New Garden Township, Chester County;
• University Road over U.S. 1 in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County;
• Township Road over U.S. 1 in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County;
• Cowpath Road over Perkiomen Creek in Salford and Franconia townships,
Montgomery County;
• Terwood Road over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland Township,
Montgomery County;
• Gypsy Lane over I-76 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County; and
• Farmington Avenue over Route 100 in Upper Pottsgrove, Montgomery County.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
this $5,505,505 bridge improvement project that is financed with 100
percent
state funds through Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in October 2019.
