Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week on Several State Highways for
Resurfacing in Philadelphia

Daytime and nighttime lane restrictions are scheduled next week on several
state highways as part of an $8.8 million project to repair and resurface
26
miles of state highway in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. Work on the project is expected
to be
completed in late October.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, May 22, through Friday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM and 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Henry Avenue between U.S. 13

(Hunting Park Avenue) and Walnut Lane;
• Monday, May 22, through Friday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM and 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Spring Garden Street between

39th Street/Lancaster Avenue and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway;
• Monday, May 22, through Friday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM and 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Kingsessing Avenue between
52nd
Street and 65th Street;
• Monday, May 22, through Friday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM and 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on 65th Street between
Kingsessing
Avenue and Cobbs Creek Parkway; and
• Monday, May 22, through Friday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM and 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Whitby Avenue between South
52nd
Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work

zones because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's
schedule is dependent on the weather.

The additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract

include:

• Chester Avenue between U.S. 13 (Baltimore Avenue) and 52nd Street;
• U.S. 30 (Girard Avenue) between Lancaster Avenue and Lansdowne Drive/U.S.
13
(34th Street);
• Cheltenham Avenue between Route 611 (Old York Road) and Tookany Creek
Parkway/Crescentville Road;
• Princeton Avenue between U.S. 13 (Frankford Avenue) and I-95 Service
Road;
• Willits Road between Academy Road and Ashton Road;
• Parkside Avenue between North 52nd Street and U.S. 30 (West Girard
Avenue);
• Stenton Avenue between Ivy Hill Road and Phil Ellena Street;
• Godfrey Avenue from Wister Street to east of Front Street;
• Clarissa Street/Wayne Avenue between U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) and
Washington Lane;
• Bethlehem Pike between Germantown Avenue and Stenton Avenue; and
• Mt. Airy Avenue/Easton Road/Wadsworth Avenue between Germantown Avenue
and
Cheltenham Avenue.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill the existing roadway
surface
and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal
the
roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Tony DePaul and Son of Philadelphia, PA is the general contractor on the
$8,889,694 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act
89,
Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.
