I-76 Lane, Ramp Closures Overnight Next Week Near 30th Street in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound and westbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to a single lane on Monday, November 19, and Tuesday, November 20, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, between the 30th Street and South Street interchanges in Philadelphia for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
In addition, the ramp from westbound I-76 to 30th Street will be closed on Monday, November 19, and Tuesday, November 20, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. Motorists normally using the ramp will be detoured west on I-76, then east on Interstate 676 to the 22nd Street Exit, north on 22nd Street to the ramp to I-676 west, then east on I-76 to the 30th Street Exit.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on I-76 near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled closures are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
The lane and ramp closures will allow crews to continue repairs, deck construction and painting on two sections of the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct over I-76.
The work is part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
