Route 452 (Market Street) Bridge to Close November 26 for Several Weeks for Construction in Delaware County
King of Prussia, PA – Route 452 (Market Street) will be closed and detoured between U.S. 13 (10th Street) and Ridge Road on Monday, November 26, through Sunday, December 23, for various construction activities on a project to replace the structure carrying Route 452 (Market Street) over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township, Delaware County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the 28-day closure, motorists will be directed to use U.S. 13 (10th Street), Blueball Avenue and Ridge Road to access Route 452 (Market Street). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone during this operation.
Prior to the full closure, Route 452 (Market Street) between Ormand Street and 11th Street will continue to be reduced to a single lane of traffic with flagging weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM for underground utility work.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.
The closure on November 26 is one of two planned 28-day closures that will occur during this bridge replacement project. The second full closure of Route 452 (Market Street) will occur sometime late next year.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor is replacing the 17-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new four-span, continuous prestressed box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long, 40 feet wide and will be built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. Crews will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge.
The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilitated in 1995. The current structure is 656 feet long, 32 feet wide and carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a day.
Road-Con, Inc., of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $19,947,624 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
