Girard Avenue Closures Scheduled Next Week for Demolition at I-95 Interchange in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured next week at the Interstate 95 Interchange in Philadelphia for demolition of a section of the southbound viaduct between Palmer and Ann streets, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The schedule is:
  • Monday, January 7, through Wednesday, January 9, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, eastbound or westbound Girard Avenue will be closed periodically between Richmond Street and the Aramingo Avenue overpass. Local detour routes will be posted for eastbound or westbound Girard Avenue motorists;
  • Monday, January 7, through Friday, January 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the section of the southbound I-95 off-ramp that goes to Girard Avenue will be closed. Motorists will be directed to use the spur ramp to eastbound Aramingo Avenue, then south on Delaware Avenue and right on Frankford Avenue to reach Girard Avenue; and
  • Thursday, January 10, and Friday, January 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Girard Avenue will be closed between Richmond Street and the Aramingo Avenue overpass. Local detour routes will be posted for eastbound and westbound Girard Avenue motorists.
All scheduled activities are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

This demolition is part of the $312 million project to replace the southbound I-95 viaduct between Palmer Street in Fishtown and Ann Street in Port Richmond, part of the reconstruction of 1.5 miles of southbound I-95 between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
