U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Daytime Lane Closures, Stoppages Next Week for Traffic Shift in Concord Township

King of Prussia, PA - Periodic daytime lane closures and stoppages will occur late next week on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord Township, Delaware County as crews establish a new traffic pattern that marks the partial completion of Stage 1 construction on almost a mile of the $62.2 million project to widen and improve 2.6 miles of the highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Flagger-controlled lane closures and brief traffic stoppages will be in place on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) between U.S.1 (Baltimore Pike) and Fellowship Drive on Thursday, January 17, and Friday, January 18, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The restrictions will allow crews to move temporary construction barriers and complete other activities as they shift a lane of eastbound and westbound traffic onto the newly-constructed eastbound lanes in that area.

Crews will then begin Stage 2 work that will widen and improve the westbound side of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in the area of the new traffic pattern.

Stage 1 construction will continue until next spring on the eastbound side between Fellowship Drive and Clayton Park Drive.

Motorists should expect delays on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway), allow extra time for travel through the work areas, or use an alternate route. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

In addition, the north side of the Spring Valley Road intersection with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) will close for approximately four months for reconstruction beginning at 9:00 AM Thursday, January 17. Motorists will be detoured west on Concord Road to south on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) for access U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway), or east on Concord Road to south on Smithbridge Road for access to the south side of Spring Valley Road.

PennDOT began construction in spring 2017 on the first-of-two mainline projects to widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County. Work on the first mainline section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction on this section is expected to start in 2020.

An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange is under design.
