I-76 Overnight Lane Closures Next Week for ITS Installation in Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 motorists in Montgomery County will encounter single lane closures on Monday, January 28, through Friday, February 1, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components as part of the first phase of a long-range, comprehensive, multimodal transportation management plan designed to enhance travel and safety along the Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) corridor between King of Prussia and Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work locations are:
- Westbound I-76 between U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road); and
- Eastbound I-76 between Croton Road and Weadley Road.
I-76 motorists will continue to encounter periodic shoulder closures in both directions weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Montgomery Drive in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel in the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
This work is part of a PennDOT program to employ a series of smart corridor strategies and technologies over the next several years through an integrated corridor management initiative intended to maximize capacity on I-76, optimize traffic flow on adjacent roadways and incentivize transit, bicycle, and pedestrian travel throughout the corridor.
