I-76 East to Close at Night Next Week for Construction near 30th Street in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound Interstate 76 will be closed and westbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane overnight next week near 30th Street in Philadelphia for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, February 4, through Friday, February 8, from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane, then closed completely each night from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning between the Interstate 676 and South Street interchanges.

During the overnight closure, eastbound I-76 traffic will exit at 30th Street and follow 30th Street to Chestnut Street, then turn left on Chestnut Street and right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

In addition, on Monday, February 4, through Friday, February 8, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane periodically between the South Street and I-676 interchanges.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on I-76 near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled closures are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

The lane and ramp closures will allow crews to continue repairs, deck construction and painting on two sections of the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct over I-76.

The work is part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
